Session Styling Guide

Congratulations! You're all booked for your session. Now the fun part of deciding what the heck you are going to wear can begin! If you need a little bit of inspiration, I've put together a handy style guide for you.

This is your session, and you are absolutely entitled to wear whatever you like. These are suggestions that will help you and your family look and feel your best.

Co-ordinate & Compliment

Let's start by figuring out where your session is going to take place? We want to choose clothing in colours and patterns that will compliment the environment. You don't want to blend in, nor do you want to stand out in such a way that is not organic.

Choose clothing in colours that go well together. Popular colour options include pastels and jewel tones.

Patterns are a beautiful way to add a pop to your images. However, if one person is wearing a pattern (floral/stripes/plaid etc) ensure the rest of your family is in solid colour, so that you don't clash.

Try to avoid neon colours and clothing with large logos. We want the attention to fall on your sweet faces. Black is another color to avoid, as it is a dominent colour and can quickly overwhelm the rest of your stunning outfits.

Still not sure? Try these colour replacement suggestions:

Instead of red, choose burgundy or maroon

Instead of white, choose cream or tan

Instead of black, choose denim or charcoal

Layers & Accessories

Accessories such as scarves, hats, shawls, jackets and jewellery are all great ways to incorporate some fun into your outfits.

We can take a moment to add or remove layering pieces during the shoot as needed. This will give your gallery wonderful variety, without the need for a full outfit change.

While we're at it, let's talk about texture. Don't be afraid to include pieces made from faux fur, linen, lace, chunky knits etc.

There is no need to buy new outfits right away.

You can often find stylish, flattering, complimentary outfits within your existing wardrobe. Have a look and see what you can come up with!

If you're not finding that perfect outfit, and you would prefer to treat you and your family to some new clothes, then go right ahead my friend! I fully support a little retail therapy.

Cohesive and well put together outfits, with a variety of textures, are a sure way to turn your family photos into beautiful works of art!

Get Organized!

You've found the perfect outfits. Hooray!

Lay them out on the bed or floor, and see how they look all together. I bet they look amazing!

If you like, you can even go ahead and send me a text of your outfits. I don't mind at all, I promise! In fact, I'm sure I'll be just as jazzed as your are!

PRO TIP!

Gather your clothing, shoes and accessories the night before your session. The last thing you need is to be looking for a missing shoe when you're trying to pile into the car!
